Their behavior looks very promising for future spawnings; they're just playing "Doctor" now.
 
What does it mean when you have never noted Asterina Starfish in your tank but all of the sudden you find 2 cruising up your front glass that you cleaned for the first time in like 6 months a couple nights ago due to finally having Coraline growing on the glass? Serious, what does this mean - I didnt think I had any Asterina and now this...?
 
Probably just actually able to see them since you finally cleaned the glass.

I have a couple in my tank that I see from time to time, very good at blending in with the Rock and hiding, kind of interesting all of the life that sneaks in our tanks even when we take every preventative measure to keep them out

Kevin gave my tank the best compliment ever tonight - said he has never seen it looking as nice as it is now! Woot!
 
Did a 30 gallon w/c and all water going in was 1.025 - after water change - tank showed 1.027.

I just recalibrated both of my refractometers - both were off UGH

Tank is actually at 1.023

Since my mishap, I calibrate every day that I check my water; no exceptions.

Why the large water change?

Uber high nitrates - I have been battling them for the last 2 months

I added 1/2 cup of salt to the ATO water - hopefully I get somewhere near 1.025 in the next week with the ATO

Whats your ongoing strategy going to be to manage nitrates ?
 
W/C didnt do anything

I replaced the GFO/Carbon in the reactor a week or so ago and now it appears the media has plugged up since no output is coming out of the reactor.

The MJ is running full on and was creating output great for the first week. : (
 
Carbon usually only last 7 days for me as well, might get as much as 10 days before clogging. So just use less and change it more often. The carbon will last longer without clogging if you add some filter floss to the bottom of your refillable cartridge as a pre-filter.

If you use the good stuff ( Rox .8 carbon ) for your tank it only takes about 1/4 a cup, fill the rest of the cartridge with floss ( ie: pillow stuffing )

Why filter floss instead of sponges?

At this point I am thinking I will likely use the TLF to run GFo and then use the single BRS reactor for the carbon. Mixing the 2 in one reactor is certainly convenient but I did'nt realize how quick the carbon gets exhausted. The media is spendy so I think at this point running them separate to get longer use out of each is the way to go.

Yes sir - I run the Rox .8 carbon and also run the high capacity GFO
