Best Reef Salt? And why?

That anaylsis has been picked apart ever sense it was released not to mention it's 2008 and salt mixes are constantly tweaking.
 
I've used RC for a long time, but I have recently switched to IO because I have to add ca and alk anyways with RC. I don't understand what is being left behind after mixing, I haven't noticed anything. I have had a bad experience however, I once received a box of RC that mixed to a 16 dkh. I didn't test until after I did the WC (my stupidity). My corals were all fine though, and it slowly worked its way back down. I think my sps actually liked the elevated alk.
 
If I was going to go back to a cheaper salt I'd do Kent! no one talks about Kent, they have a great budget salt that is higher in cal/mag than RC.

I started my tank up with Instant Ocean, then switched to Reef Crystals once I started getting some more corals. After I did that my coralline algae growth exploded! I have no complaints about RC, but I have recently switched to Tropic Marin Pro Reef per a few people's suggestions. It does seem to mix faster.
 
ESV user here. It's the best to me because I can mix it 2 hours before doing a wc and my LPS seem to love it. They are always feeding right after the WC. Unlike IO where they and other corals always seemed to close their polyps and retract.

I've done a large(80%) wc with no adverse effects at all. So in any emergency situation I know I can do a full WC shortly and not have to worry about killing anything in the process. Plus my mixing pump and bin are spotless. Definitely could not say that with IO/RC.
 
Just my experience

I started into the hobby with TM - never had any issues what so ever. Switched to RC and not a month later was battling cyano.

I know of 2 other members who had the very same issue happen - none of us had changed anything in our tanks so the only culprit was the salt switch.

I am going back to TM - it is totally more expensive and you can buy the cheaper salts and add what you need to get the levels of everything up to par but for me - I would rather pay the extra $$$$ and not have to add the chemicals.

It makes little to no sense to me to spend the extra money on TM or Seachem or even IMO Reef Crystals when you get little to no actual gain. Most of the actual benefits i think are fabricated by peoples minds as they expect different results. I use additives and get similar if not parallel results.

I really think that there are some things, especially in this hobby, people think that if it costs more and has more fancy words on the box its gotta be way better. Kinnda like buying a bottle of Fiji water or a bottle of Aquafina or Smart Water... all the same dang thing but 1 costs $3 more for the same amount.

Granted there are more minerals and such in TM vs others, a bottle of mineral additives lasts about as long as 2 buckets of salt or so maybe longer depending on dose levels and it costs what, $10-15 for a big bottle?

/shrug just my opinion, ive used all the salts for extended periods.
 
I started on Reef Crystals and have been using it ever since. I have seen the other salts at the LFS here but it is hard to take the step to change when you know something has worked for so long. I know RC does leave a little film on my black mixing buckets, but it always has...

I have been looking at the TM salt though as it has been getting awesome reviews and I have been seeing more and more people saying RC has gone downhill. It may be time for a change in the future.
