Doing zeovit (1 Viewer)

Come on Matt, get on the weekly progression pics or stop wasting out time :)

Regarding salts, I was talking to Li and he mentioned that Oceanic is high alkalinity(11dkh) and low calcium(380ppm). They must have change their formula, so that's off the list.

Ditto for Coralife salt. Was very good for Zeo but they must have changed things. Alk is to high and Ca 500+

Week three dosing:.
Zeobak 4 drops every three days
Zeofood 7 4 drops every three days
Zeostart 2 .35 ml in the morning and again at night
Postasium iodide/fluoride 4 drops every night
Amino Acid concentrate 4 drops every night
Sponge power 4 drops every night
Coral vitalizer 4 drops every night

and thats all for now. I'll try to get some pics up soon. Seems like the corals that have shown drastic color shifts are the cali tort (much more irridescent blue), blue tip tenuis (tips are much bluer), flashlight acro (beautiful blue growth tips, strange), and a cream colored acro that could be from grigor or mary, not sure (need a picture to show how cool this acro is).

I need to test parameters and post soon, just kinda lazy.

Alk 8 dkh
Cal 390

added in pocci/stylo glow dosing 4 drops a day to start
reduced sponge power down to 4 drops twice a week

Can't get any descent pics right now.

Week four:
Changed out .9 liters of zeolites, left in 10% for bacterial seed for the new .9 liters of zeolites.

Replaced carbon

End of week five:
Alk: 7
Cal: 400
Mag:1260
SG: 1.026

Dosing:
4 x daily of zeobak
4 x daily of zeofood
.35ml morning and night of zeostart 2
4 x daily of pocci/stylo glow
4 x daily of potassium iodide/flouride
4 x daily of amino acids
4 x daily of coral vitalizer
4 x every other day of sponge power

I've turned down the flow in my reactor to around 70 to 80 gph (I think). I was having some problems with loosing xooxanthenellae (or however you spell it) to too large of an extent in some of my corals. Also, I was loosing base tissue off of one of my corals. I wish I could alternate my flow in the reactor to three hours on and three hours off, but this unfortunately leaves the zeolites exposed to the air and kills the bacterial living on them.

I tried to take pictures but they do not show the specific changes in the corals. Anyone with a nice camera is more than welcome to stop by.

Great parameters you have. Very nice.
Maybe bump Ca up 10 or 20 to 410-430.

I guess you mean with 4 as in 4 drops?
I got the suggestion in the Zeovit forum after changing the Zeolites dosing Bak and food daily but after a week or so you only have to dose them twice a week.
This is just to compare for you what I am doing. I am not the Pro here either. Just a few months ahead ;) Hope you don't mind my input?

I dose:
CV daily
Amino Acid every second day
Sponge Power every second day
PIF every other day
Pohl's Extra : daily (lot of users recommend this product)

I had the same issue with the reactor loosing water during the OFF time. Installed a check valve between the pump and reactor. Problem solved

Maxreefer, thanks for the info. Where did you get the check valve for the reactor and reactor pump? What is a check valve, ha?

Also, just added 4 ml of phol's extra

Got the check valve from Bulkreefsupply. With a check valve water can only flow in one direction. Not recommended for a return on your tank but for this purpose it is just fine.
Another thing you can do if you have an aquacontroller:
It took my reactor about 30 minutes to empty until the zeolites became exposed to air. In the OFF period I ran the pump every 30 minutes for about 30 seconds just enough to fill the reactor again. Not an elegant solution but it worked.

Both the Sponge Power and Pohls Xtra will darken coral tissues if OD'd. There may be a point of diminshing returns with both of these. When I started dosing both, I saw overnight changes in growth and coloration. But after a certain point I didn't see any additional benefit to dozing per the bottle versus 3x weekly.

My ph is getting down to 7.7 during the night. What do you guys think about dosing kalk with zeovit? If I dose the kalk and keep the ph at a constant 8.2 wouldn't I get better coral growth and coloration? Also, aren't the reasons around not dosing kalk with zeovit mere speculation?

Here is the text from a sticky on the Zeovit forum:

It can be typical for such systems to have no detectable PO4 in the water column which several kind of algae grow very well.
Kalkwasser does not have a direct impact to the system or its components so its more a general advise.

I stopped using Kalk when I started Zeovit. I have most LR from my older tank where I was used to dose kalk. When I did my weekly treatment with ZZ (Zeozym) I saw my Ca. skyrocketing. This was noticed also by others. It could be the ZZ caused the LR to release the old Kalk still stored in the LR over the years but it is not proven this was the reason.

Anyways now I dose 2 part with a dosing pump every couple hours and PH stays stable day and night.

IMHO, there is little science behind this claim. Obviously, Alexander has been extremely successful in reef keeping. But CaPO4 doesn't dissolve in seawater unless the pH is less than 7.6.... I have used kalk and zeo together, never had any measurable PO4.

I haven't had a Ca spike, but know others have seen this. I haven't the foggiest as to why, I'm also not a regular user of it. The sad fact that the ingredients aren't know is that it causes much speculation as to the root cause of such observations....
