What is the curved screen frame hack?

Nice Shawn, always great to see your progress.

One tank to consider is a 10 gallon brute?

Or Ken's freebie ;)

Are you saying that you need some sort of 10 gallon water container? I have a 10 gallon tank that I used as my frag tank before. It's sitting in my garage right now, free for you to take if you want it 😁.
Won’t fit the space I have. But truly appreciate the offer.

Draw the curve on a piece of wood. Pit pegs or screws on the drawn line and then bend the screen around the the pegs following the scribed line. Then use pegs or screws to hold it in place along the outside of the frame as you go around. The curve. I tried to find the pics or video I saw years ago. But could not find it.

I have a small space to fit the container and now even less thanks to someone mentioning putting the auto feeder in the sump! Lol. I think I found a 10 gallon black office style waste can at Home Depot or the pellet/charcoal holder might work also. Going to see if I can pick one up today and try. Or grab a dog food bin from pet store. I have some options just have to see. The can I have now works fine just have to refill every 3-5 days and I want min 7 days. 14 would be awesome. But prob won’t get that to fit in the stand. If I can talk the misses into it might try something next to the tank and build a matching cabinet. Put she already poopooed that idea. lol.

Picked up a 10 gallon waste basket from the Home Depot fits great. Until I filled with water and now it expands to a little to much for the access panel to fit 🤦🏽‍♂️. This will be good for now while I continue to look. Thinking I might try making my one from acrylic. I’m going to try and run out to a1 in osseo today and see what I can find.

Fun side note.

When doing the container swap I decided to change out all my ro lines. I used this

Apparently this tubbing is a little smaller than the black lines that comes with the tunze top off controller and pump. Well after the pump kicked in for priming on the tunze the new line created a syphon and started dripping to water into the tank. Luckily I was smart enough to set a 2 hour timer to check the tank after changing things just to make sure and what I found was about gallon of fresh water had been added to the tank. I pulled the pump out. Put a piece of the of black tube in and heated the new line and slid it over the old black line and dropped back in. Not sure if it worked yet and I’m not turning the ato back on until water evaporated back down to normal levels. Timer still ticking to check on tank in a few hours again just to make sure nothing else goes wrong.

Think I’m going to look for larger ro lines and redo again so I can remove the spliced section.

I wonder if you’re just seeing the siphon effect of a taller reservoir?

No don’t say that. Lol.
I did consider that, But I had the line run up to the top of the stand and then over and back down to the tank. So the height really never change. But once I turn it back on we’ll see.

Clicked on the ato. No more syphon. Would have never thought that would have happened. Gonna look for different ro lines now.

If it’s still a problem get a Mur-Lok check valve. They are really low cracking pressure but enough it should stop head pressure.

It’s funny that I just watched a Reef Dude video yesterday about siphons from an ato. He drilled a hole above the pump in the ato reservoir as a siphon break. It’s definitely possible for a siphon to form even with your line up above the tank. Your outlet is above the water level in the sump right?

Hopefully that gallon didn’t whack out your salinity too much.

In all the years Ive never have had a siphon on an ato except when the hose didnt fit correctly in the pump.

Would that hole not suck in water as well if it’s still in the water. Would it not need to be outside the water or just below the max water line?

Salinity did drop but it was able to bounce back over the day.

Right, it would need to be above the water but still in the container, because it would leak some water for sure, it’s a hole.

I mean for me, it “makes sense,” but I haven’t experienced it either.

I had mine siphon. I just removed the tube from the water. Put a vertical piece of pvc with hole to hold the RO line. Drilled a few holes in the bottom to allow for the RO water to disperse. Can kind of make that out from the picture.

Not a great picture, but can see all those waving hands reaching out to grab something LOL These chalices can sometimes be stinkers!!!

Just wanted to update the tread,

Was battling some cyno in the frag tank potion of the sump, along with po4 levels bottoming out and no3 skyrocketing. Was feeling a little stressed but everything was looking good. So I stayed patient and just kept up with my water change. I also did some research on how to use the avast plank feeder coming up with I may have not been running it long enough to keep the fish feed. It looked like I needed to run around 30 second the 4 times a day to get it closer to a cube of mysis volume of food. So increasing that and getting on a schedule of adding 40ml of ab+, 3 mysis cubes, and 3ml of selcon and feeding this over 3 days I was able to decrease my no3 and increase my po4. As of this morning Im back to being able to dose No3 as needed (this am did 3 grams of potasium nitrates) and po4 is stable at .03.

I picked up that carpenter wrasse and after a few days of spending most its days hiding under my large chalice I found it dead :( Not sure why or what happened, maybe clowns were a little mean since its was hiding near where they like to sleep. But either way it sucks. Makes me nervous to keep looking for a copper band.

Im still running with the 10gallon waste basket that I bent all up to make work and it’s doing what I need done for now. Not gonna think it about it much any more for now and see if I need to change it or OCD will make me replace it 😂.

Fish are harder than coral in my opinion 😅 sorry to hear about the carpenter. How do you like the avast plank? Do you keep its pump on 24/7 or only when feeding?

Thanks! Agreed on the fish. Ive had more trouble these last 2 years keeping fish over corals.

I like the avast. It’s very easy to use. A little bulky. But now having it in the sump its less of an eye sore on the display edge. I do keep the pump on 24/7. Figured less likely for food to cake up if thats an issue and I also toss food and additives in the feed pipe through out the day In between apex scheduled feedings.
