Durand tank build (1 Viewer)

Looks awesome Shawn. Cant wait to see that shroom grow!

Long day on the tank. Woke to a skimmer cup overflow accident. After cleaning up the very minimal mess i noticed water was trapped under my sump. So pulled the sump and dried the water up from the underside but also decided since ive wanted to do this for awhile I remove the filter sock holder, Holes for plumbing lines and probe holder that was built into the sump. What it left me was a nice clean open area now in my skimmer chamber. I also cleaned out all the mud that accumulated over the last year in the fuge area. Things are looking good now.

I ordered a new BRS mini reactor to see if this works better for Rowaphos. The 2 little fishes 150 im using is just to large for 2oz of Rowaphos. I cant get it to stir up in the reactor or tumble because there is just not enough there. So hopefully the mini will work. Also have a breaker box and float switches coming so hope to have a fail safe added for the skimmer or Co2 scrubber moisture cup. But im even considering adding a skimate locker. Maybe DIY one up.

So in about a week I’ll have some fun tank stuff to do again. Next hurdle is gonna be lighting. Either new bulbs or a new setup all together. But This will be most likely a Jan or Feb project.

Got the Cor 20 installed yesterday. Had a little trouble changing the programming. But think I got it. Way over sized. Set at 15%. Now I want to do a manifold since I have all this stuff extra power. Lol

6 bulb (4 b+ and 2 aquablue special). Not sure if I’ll use the canopy again or not. Have to see how blinding it is. But overall love the look inside the tank.

Got the mini reactor in yesterday also. Tested today. Po4 was down to .14. Incan see it tumbling around now as well. Sicce pump is a little loud. So I can see myself doing that manifold at some point. But for now it’s working good.

Looks great!

If you need to lower the light to reduce spill but don’t want to bake the corals you could try like 2 C+, 2 B+, and 2 Actinic or something.

Picked this guy up. Works great for pumping water out of the basement for water changes. If your going to grab one know it does not come with a 3/4” garden hose attachment. And the outlet is 1-1/2. So order what you’ll need or else the dreaded plumbing department will be your next adventure lol.

LOl Yea i was surprise to see it was so huge, but a little bummed not direct connect to garden hose. But on 3/4” it still pumped pretty quick, much faster then the Cor 20 was doing. Overall think it should work great.

Think the t5 switch may have been the secret sauce to these guys being happy.

After adding the new mini reactor po4 has finally started to settle in to its new normal.

What a beauty the jawbreaker is…I have a baby one I’m growing out

I have been fighting numbers for a little bit here. Since switching to t5’s and then lowing the t5 lights a few inches and changing co2 media my ph jumped, po4 and no3 dropped and alk dropped. Been able to dial things in a little bit but still working on it. But I’m seeing almost instant growth on all the tips of the sps and the chalices all look big and puffy. So excited to see this. Had to turn off the mini reactor running Rowa since it seems corals are having no problem absorbing the excess po4. I’ve had to double my no3 dosing and all for reef dose.

Wanted to share I’ve been using the anion and cation filter for awhile now and I’ve only had to change out the anion filter every 5 months almost to the day. At $13 per filter this has been a huge savings from changing the di.

I’ve been looking and pricing out a new custom tank to replace the current tank. I’m so happy with the placement and size of the current tank that it’s time to think about something that has a little less wear and tear on it. So hopefully in the next month or so I’ll have a vendor picked it to get that adventure started.

Took a top down picture yesterday during my weekly water change. This was 5 min after the lights turned on. Man these things have sure grow in the last year.

Sexy as usual! Good call on the anion and cation. I should do the same.. how often where you replacing DI prior?

It’s been a little bit so little hard to remember. But i think I was getting about 2-2.5 months out of one,

Cold temps are killing my top off water and Ph. Can't wait for the 40's to return.

Picked up a little biota buan sand sifting goby from Reef. I just dumped in and should have at a min used my acclimation box. Took it a few days of hiding to finally come out to play. But today seems to be the day that all is well. Will try and get a pic up once it feels a little more comfortable and doesn't hide when I approach the tank. Have had a few larger coral pieces go to new homes. Which is great. Have room for some new frags I've been eyeing up. LOL Still a few more to be picked up. Then some moving around will need to be done.

Told you he would surface.. I am in on the Mr Freeze Leptoseris and Pectinia :) I will grab tomorrow or Sat if that works

He looks good. My Midas Gold is awesome. So much character. Diamond is cool as well.. when he's not rearranging my sand bed almost daily. LOL
