Durand tank build (1 Viewer)

Zoas don't like my light,, wife love da zoas, but light is melting them in area. Hence the small tank for them...)) Win win for me..
Sorry for your losses

Monthly update I suppose.

Have been fully ignoring the tank most the summer. Have lost quite a few corals due to neglect and fox face rampage. Stopped doing water changes for a few months and that didn’t help things I don’t think. So trying to get back at it. Tank all in all looks good. Like we do it’s never good enough though lol. I’ve gotten back into doing weekly water changes. Still wanting to set up awc just not had the time or the effort needed to move forward with it. Maybe in the depths of winter boredom I’ll proceed with that plan.
Sold off the fox face and the yellow tang. I also took down all the dosers (po4,no3,chaeto gro,ab+). Only thing running now is the all for reef, kalk stirrer and ato. Trying to simplify things a bit and see if it helps get parameters back where they should be. The larger fish I think along with no water changes was keeping my po4 in the .2 + range and no3 20+ range.
So now it’s 25ish gallon water changes weekly, and chaeto gets trimmed by weekly.
During all this struggle it laziness what ever you want to call it. The gonis just keep getting bigger and bigger lol. For a coral I’ve not been able to keep ever this time around seems to be liking something.

After testing today No3 dosing had to go back on. Was down to 4.5.👎🏽 Sort of though it would be sort lived. The 2 largest fish were removed. Thats a lot of poop missing from the system. Might take a few weeks to get back dialed in to its new normal.

Almost two months to the day and we have another spawning event. These snails are happy I think 😂

Also tested this am no3 was at 4.5. So upped the dose. Po4 was at .05 so swapped out the rowaphos. Nice being able to measure in grams and keep this consistent. Alk was 8.4. Upping that a tiny bit to get a little closer to 9. Still seeing some death on some coral tissue but I’m hopeful it won’t keep spreading more to others.

Looked amazing last week chief... keep on reefing

So the tank has been very slowly loosing corals for months. Not sure why. Everytime I think I figure it out another one starts. Started with the Zoas. Whole colonies just start to disappear of weeks, then LPS. Stat loosing heads but those eventually just stopped but other ones are growing crazy right next to them. Then chalices. My huge Miami just started having its skin peel off and blow away. and now SPS slowly STN but then will stop and then move to another and then stop. . Had a huge Favia just slowly die off but the other 3 are good. Had my huge chalice go but the other 5 are good. Im at the point the tank is not fun anymore watching all this death slowly happen each passing week. To the point considered taking it down. I thought about sending out a ICP but honestly I dont even care to do that. Im mostly venting here because this is a group of folks that understand the struggle unlike the you know weird folks that dont have a tank full of animals 🤣. Im going to give it a few more months I think and see if my weekly water changes and No3 dosing takes care of this mess but if not, it might be a sad day coming. 😔. Im hopeful its just the summer slump with my attitude and the chaos in the tank is from early summer neglect. Hang in there it will work out in the end is all I keep telling myself LOL.

I had a thought of maybe pulling out some of the fish. I don’t think im overly stocked but i do have this hairalge that stated to get thicker as soon as I pulled out the tang and fox face. Not surprised but annoyed thinking removing the big eaters and poopers would help. Might have been better to pull the Anthias????? Still might do that as the male never turned that pretty bluish pink I see on Live Aquaria. I bought the wrong species oops LOL As I type this its seems maybe that might be a good plan to move forward on. Pull the anthias, the chromis and the purple dotty. Leave the 3 wrasses, the clown, the lawn mower blenny and then give the tank some time to settle in. Prob need to pull the Fuge as well as that most likely be needed since the bio load would be pretty low for 70 gallons of water.

Yikes sorry to here the stuggle... as we say at work the struggles are real..
Like you were saying fall is on its way and maybe a small reset. Don't know what else to say other than were all here to listen..

I can relate. I randomly lose corals for no apparent reason. I had a torch completed bailout overnight and no idea why. Yet another doing just fine. Makes no sense.

The trend here seems to be my No3 and Po4. Looking back and testing today. My Po4 has dropped to zero, and even with dosing what I would consider a high amount of No3 im only at 6.3. I hesitant to do this but i think it might be time to take the Fuge off line. I think maybe im just stripping too much out of the system. Any input on this? Im currently running a night time fuge cycle for only 6 hours and it does grow well. Im lazy about harvesting so i only do it every month or so. But this might be whats causing some of my issues. If Im stripping to much out then the hair algae wants to grow more or maybe the nutrients are low because of the hair algae growth??? I could start dosing p04 again but if the fuge is stripping it maybe it’s a better option to remove……..Alk jumped to 9.2 from 8.5 as well and i assume its because the corals are not happy and not absorbing as much alk. Love to hear some ideas as how to proceed or confirmation removing the fuge is a better idea then dosing.

I took my nano flip glass cleaner out yesterday while messing with my screen top and forgot it out of the tank on the overflow cover. Decided to give it a once over before putting back on the glass.

These two rust spots could also be causing some issues. Wouldn’t that be nice if that’s all it was this whole time. 🤦🏽‍♂️

I’m inclined to think the fuge could be part of it. Could be stripping nutrients and the corals can’t get what they need. The ICP test will show.

Could be a huge number of things and I don’t know enough about your system to speculate. How old are your RO carbon blocks etc?

Calibrated refractometer recently?

True. Wait and see what comes back in a few weeks might be the best plan. Afraid to don’t much at once lol

Old. More than old. Lol. Maybe 2 years old.

Your suppose to calibrate that? Lol Not in a bit. I’ll do that later today.

Well I better get my crap together quick. A very large shipment is in route to my house and I’m not sure how I’m going to fit this all in. .
The before
