I did a thing…. IM SR-120 incoming (1 Viewer)

Well I’m going to be the guinea pig for Kraken reef. I’ve spent the last few days getting all the measurements off my tank they want! They are definitely detail oriented! Now the wait time as I’m the first one for this tank. Can’t wait! The factory tops for the smaller tanks are good but this one hasn’t fit right sense day one and the length makes it hard to move around in the room. This two piece top with the options I’m having added will be nice!

Well I spent a few days away from home only to see my fish have little white spots in all of its F-you glory! Despite my best efforts at quarantining everything it’s here! Removing all of my fish at this point isn’t going to happen so I’m going to do the maintaining option.

I have a UV that for parasites can have a flow rate of up to 290gph which will turn my water over 70 times per day.

I will also peroxide dose as my research suggests this will kill them in the free swimming state.

Last I’ll add a .5 micron sediment filter to catch the free floaters. All three things should knock the numbers way down. Some have said it may even remove it from the tank in 10 weeks time.

I’ve started polyplab medic in the mean time to hopefully manage it a bit while I get everything setup. As of now everyone is eating well and active

Side nope my zoas are looking good tonight!

Sorry to hear about this.

Personally, I don't think I can manage to keep ich completely out of my system. I always assume that it's there, that there is some strain of ich in the tank, and the new fish (if they don't carry some strain of ich themselves) will have to adapt to that strain of ich in the tank. If they are healthy enough, they will build up the immune system and survive/live along with it. And I always assume every time I add a new fish, it might bring a new strain or other disease, or sickness into the tank, and the old fish will have to adapt to that. So, after everything calms down and there seems to be no issue, I try not to add new things in, in order to avoid repeating the nasty circle again. I'm just saying how I operate my tank here 😁.

Reading your recent post about your ich issue, and I'm not following your quarantine procedure very closely, so I wonder: You quarantine the fish, do you quarantine your corals at all? Have you taken steps to prevent getting ich into the tank by not adding water from external source, or new corals directly into the tank, etc.? I'm thinking if you haven't, then even if you quarantine the fish, you are still leaving some doors open to ich there.

I was quarantining everything. Including the two torches I just got from you. In fact you kind of gave me crap about my procedure. How ever it got in there I’m sure it’s something I did not realizing I cross contaminated something.

Sorry! I was not giving you crap about your procedure. It's my big mouth. I was teasing about someone else. I did not even know that you were going through some sort of extensive quarantine procedure for your stuff. I don't usually follow everybody and everything that they do on here :D. Anyway, good luck with your stuff!

The doser is up, calibrated, programmed and set for testing over night. If there is 50ml in it at 4 when I get up for work I’ll say it’s good to go. UV will be here tomorrow and I’ll get that plumbed as well.

I’m going the peroxide method as polyplab is expensive but was quick to get as a stop gap while I was waiting on equipment. Honestly in the day the powder blue and yellow are looking much better.

I will be running full numbers on my tank tomorrow as I bought this pump for dosing kalk+2. But I may hold off on that till the peroxide portion is done.

Darn you Ken, giving me crap again. :). I know I have issues, good to know there are others like me.

What?? ... I should start acting innocent and deny everything going forward. After all, they say 'word of mouth is no evidence'. It is hearsay. Show me something in writing, otherwise, it did not happen. I can remember I was saint like and I only said good things about people!!! 😇😇😇😄😄😄

Hahah, classic Ken.

@postie1686, Sorry to hear about your ich issues. I hope you can get it under control soon.

Spent some time modifying some plumbing on my uv. i went Coralife just to save some length. I didn’t like the fittings so I swapped them so I don’t need reducers.

UV mounted! Will be easy to replace bulbs and should create minimal head pressure. The pump says setting 1.3 is 280 gallons which is what this uv calls for with parasite control. No leaks so far. I do fear how the uv will affect that fitting on the right. Might keep one on hand and just replace it yearly.

My skimmer is now doing great at producing skimate! Took a bit to dial it in but it’s been doing good!

I did loose another fish while working behind the tank. I heard a splash but didn’t look. Found my carpenter wrasse on top of my screen top 😭 he was my favorite

It looks like my pods are doing very well back here. Some of the biggest I’ve ever seen!

Did my water change this morning. Now that my lights are on my tangs are looking good! I don’t see any spots on any of them. Although they have now moved to the opposite side of the tank from normal and the blue has kind of dug himself a hole.

Just when you think you’re winning the battle you wake to find your tang looking like this. I now suspect it’s velvet and not ich. Guess I will setup another QT tank and retrieve what’s still alive after work

Oh man that sucks. Best of luck to you and the fish. I know I personally would be super stressed at having to leave for work. Sorry you woke up to see that. Hopefully they'll make it to tonight.
