Tap water vs ro water!! (1 Viewer)

i'm having this battle wtih this brown alge in my tank rather its diatoms or not im running tap water becasue ro water gets expensive, is this why i alway have brown alge or diatoms?

RO/DI is a must have in this hobby. Tap water is food for bad alge

You can buy RO water at most grocery stores for around 40 cents a gallon. I'ts not the PREFERRED way to go but hey, better than tap water.

you can check the service record which is usually on the machine somewhere, but of course, there's not much you can do about it if it hasn't been serviced in a while, other than going and buying your water at a LFS or buying the RO/DI system

I know i buy ro water and It cost me like 3.89 for 2 jugs and i need like 5 5 gallons water jugs and that gets spendy specialy if I dont have the money for it every time I need to do water changes.

Is ther away i can buy 20gallons from some one that has a ro di unit for like 3.00 ever time i need to so water changes? I only change water every 2 weeks

buy a bunch when you do have money and save it. Its good to have water on hand for emergency's

Yeah, For me it's a lot more economical because my tank is only 14 gallons. lol.

so that's like a couple dollars a week MAX....

Isn't is liek 50 cents a gallon for RO/DI at SWE and DA and some others? that would mean you are talking about $10 for a water change of 20 gallons. If that is too much then you are in the wrong hobby.

well i'm not looking to drive 2 SWE that alone would cost me more than the water to drive there and back. Give me a break dude i'm just having troubles in this economy right now and just asking for a little help!!!

here's another option. Buy some sort of filtration system. Not an RO/DI if you can't afford it but just SOMETHING to at least make your tap water cleaner if you're going to use it. Of course, you may still end up with the algae problems in the end, so i'm not sure if that'd be the best course...

You could also do water changes monthly instead of bi-weekly or smaller changes bi-weekly. How big is your tank? Do you have a protein skimmer?

I get that you don't want to drive all the way to SWE i was just suggesting that some places have it available for pretty cheap. disocovery aquatics has it for sure and they are closer than SWE by far. I thought even walmart has it though i don't know what they charge.
