Tap water vs ro water!! (1 Viewer)

everyone has told you the proper AND economical route to take. i keep reading you post about how much you spend per gallon and how you dont want to waste gas.

SAVE money, SAVE gas, SAVE your corals and fish. BUY an RO unit... that is all, no other resolutions. You can buy a used one CHEAP 50-100$, or buy a new one.. IMO it doesnt matter at all, all it is is a plastic tube holding a filter, if you buy used make sure you get new filters with it.

No back and forth now. save for it, starting yesterday. look in your couch cusions, save your change, clean your car, save $10 a week, $20 a week, whatever you can. We are all financially rough right now, we all manage to budget, YOU HAVE TO BUDGET your life in this hobby man, expect expenses.

Like a car, you have some money tucked away in case something happens, same here.

did i mention your resolution is to buy an RO unit at any cost? you will contiunue to have algae issues and prolly have dieing coral untill you do this, so instead of adding ANYTHING to the tank (i understand youve added corals recently) dont torture the additions, get an RO unit first.
 
well i use both ro and tap if i cant get ro water. the orange monti is actually doing just fine:biggthumpup:

yea, and thats beside the point.

get an RO unit and save time money and gas by getting ro water at home, or continue to go in and buy RO at the store, paying 20 times more for the same product. dont use tap water.
 
My RO/DI unit I bought from BRS (could have bought it most anywhere) was the #1 best purchase I every made related to my tanks. Unless you have access to inexpensive RO/DI water (figure gas and time into your costs), after a tank and lights, that should be the next purchase anyone seriously interested in this hobby should make.
 
ok dude i'm still learning and just learned that the reason why i'm having alge probs is becasue i'm useing tap water so you don't need to keep repeating your self and skold me so lay off would you! (jager)
My next buy will be and ro di or at least a ro unit, but inever planed on buying anything els for a while anyways unless it was to improve my tank and water!
 
i think the censes is that you need a unit of your own.

well that will be my next buy and i have been in this hobby for 6 yrs and never really had that much problems with keeping fish or coral with out a ro di unit so that proves that you really don't need it, but it is nice to have becasue you can save more money in the long run by getting a ro di unit and since i'm in a pinch right now it would have been nice to have, but i don't so...

The votes have been tallied and yes! with a tank that size, shoulda gotten an RO/DI unit a long time ago. My brother and I just shelled out about 180 bucks on a unit from BRS and installed it tonite. Took like 15 mins. Already got fresh water filling up the storage container and feels good. It'll just end paying for itself and it's more convenient.
 
everyone is going to yell at me, but i use nothing but tap water. no skimmer. i keep a deep sand bed with a HOB refugium where i keep chaeto. my parameters are perfect. no bad algae. i rarely even have to clean my glass with the magnet pad.

you must live in a super clean well district or something. i did 1!!! water change with tap water about 9 years ago when i didn't know any better and my tank looked like @$$ for about 3 months.

PS that kent maxima 35 GPD is one that i had for years its a pretty solid unit. i paid about 280 for it back in the day.

ugh... i just burped up Cappicola, Soppresatta and giardinari....... that sandwich was good though....
