Tiny fish tank build (1 Viewer)

I love old school lords. Looking good. Is your mag stable now ?

Yes, it stays where it should be now.
The faulty refractometer most likely the main driver of that, it read high on salinity even right after use the calibrationfluid to adjust to 1.026. So I made adjustment with ro/di water to lower my salinity, which cause the salinity to be at 1.020-1 instead of 1.025-6. So I thought my mg is being use up by sowmthing else.

Ah bummer, yeah Salinity the one parameter that rules them all. Lookin good

Things are still moving along, and upgrade is coming, not 300g. lol

New tank design, still no powerhead in tank design to keep it nem safe. 2 Jebao returns. every 1-2 hours the flow will switch 80/20.
I also want to keep the AIO style and simple, I will build some baskets for each return chamber.

Very cool. Alternating gyre is the best flow pattern possible imo and having 2 pumps cycling makes for great redundancy!

back from aquashella, bring back a little bit of Chicago.
picked up a Chicago sunburst to add to the BTA collection, The OG bounce and nice red coco worm.
hopefully the upcoming tank swap will go smooth :)

Alright, moving forward with the upgrade.
I finally pulled my CNC out of semi-retirement. lol
It took me a few tries before getting the custom dual passthrough done. I only got 2mm to work with.
An "upgrade" to the backbox includes removable overflow weirs so I can adjust the tank's water level.
I still have to cut and make the custom baskets for both sides.

Oh, youre DIYing the new tank?? 👀
Yes and no. The tank is a Fiji Cube 48 EXT, but I don't want to set it up to have a sump. I actually very like the AIO right now, so I'm building my own chamber to house the two return pumps and using the existing holes to complete the plumbing. i got a few expensive BTAs in the tank, so I don't want to have any pump in the main display. The overflow weirs are removable, so for whatever reason, the nems decide to take a walk and get stuck on the overflow. That will be as easy as popping the weir placing it on the rock, and putting a backup weir in place. all the overflow weir cut out are the same size. So I just need to cut 2 extra for backup.if I can't remember where I put the backup, It only takes less than 15 minutes to cut a new one.
I made the chamber just big enough to appear as going all the way to the bottom of the tank, but it didn't. so if in the future I want to convert it to have a sump all I need to do is remove the chamber on the back and pop in the overflow box.

Media basket comes out decent.

The swap is done, I might need a few more piece of rock to fill the tank up a little and add some more sand once the tank stabilize some more.

Small update.
Added some more rock, move a few things around. Some corals still need to find a better spot, but over all the system is heading toward the right direction.

Nutrients still bottom out, but I am doing kz amino acid and af power elixir to help the corals get the nutrients they needed.
