Durand tank build (1 Viewer)

So I have some purple tang trouble. I caught this guy who is quite large stuck to the same mp10 twice. Once i turn off power it swims away and acts like nothing ever happened. Should I be concerned? Mp10 is set about 15%. Fish seems happy and healthy and eats like a pig.

I say as long as he is happy, don't fret.

What percentage is the mp10 running? Surprised it could catch a tang like that lol

3 out of the 4 run a program that bounces from 25-65%. The 4th is the one that the tang was stuck to on 2 different days and it set on a program that runs between 10-15%. He did come from taller tank so maybe it was just something that happened as it gets used to my tank. But the second time it caused so damage. Feeding well and adding selcon so hopefully it learned its lesson.

Figured it’s time for an update.
It’s been a tough summer for the tank. After my buddy dropped a bunch of livestock at my place the tank has not been the same. Po4 is all over the place. No3 and Alk just kept dropping. As soon as I thought I had it all figured out. Alk dropped. After a few days I noticed my all for reef lines were clogged. So changed those and the nitrate dose lines. Like a fool I reversed the no3 lines. That caused no3 to dropped. Well now I have those perimeters back in order. But during all this I’ve lost a lot of my acros. Took major hits on my chalices and hammers. And then lost a few fish. I’ve considered taking it down a few times but trying to keep things going incase my buddies get there tanks up and running again. I’ve also considered it might be time to look at a nicer tank. For now I’m mostly working on getting back to a steady tank that I don’t have to watch things die in. With all of this the tank still looks pretty great. I added a thin layer of sand a month or so ago and sort of fell in love with the look. So much brighter. But adds it’s own struggles.

Winter plan if I keep things going will be to replace the tank with a new one. Same size most likely but a true peninsula tank. Swap out the hybrid t5/prime to a 6 bulb t5. Redo rock work or remove some rock and corals to get more flow though the center of the tank. Change out the 4 mp10’s to 2 mp40’s if I can get myself to remove rock and corals.

Think I may have pinpointed what might be happening or at least contributing to my crazy tank behavior.
Noticing bubbles from skimmer have not been much to talk about and less skimmate being produced. The moisture for some reason seems to be getting to a higher point in the co2,skimmer setup. This is making my co2 clog and choking off the skimmer. Maybe not completely but enough that po4 keeps climbing. So I pulled the co2 off line and have just ran since Sunday with only the skimmer. Cup has filled up in just 3 days. This I’m assuming could be the cause of my battle with po4. I’m going to run the tank this way until Sunday and then test. If the results are what I think they will be then co2 media will be on order and hope that I can go back to running co2.

Something else I’m noticing…….

Co2 being offline zero change in ph. I must have been choking this thing off so bad. I’m guessing with the addition of my buddies fish my skimmer was working much harder. Maybe producing more moisture. And this was causing the co2 media to clog. 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️. I’m surprised having the collection cup before the 2 medias but run must just be too short to catch enough. Man these life lessons are just killing me 😂😂😂😂.

what size is the tank, looking good.
Scrubber offline and no change in PH is good I guess. I have been contemplating what it would take to run an outside line to skimmer

I dont like that there was no change. But explains a few things. Well maybe, nothing seems perfect in explaining saltwater LOL. I can easily run a line outside just not sure I want to. Looking at seeing If I can get a line ran to the basement and tie into my air to air. I moved my Co2 scrubber around along with my collection cup and added in some more tubing to see if this does anything. New media ordered that was recommended to me (Thanks @spsick) hope the larger size will keep it from compacting.

Today i put co2 scrubber back online since the canisters were still full of media that was still good. But this time Im only using one canister instead of 2 and reran some of the lines to be a little taller maybe have more gravity pushing moisture back to the skimmer. PH is up to 8.11. Maybe it’s the second canister. It’s just to much for this little skimmer

All the things I worked on last year Ive started to undo LOL. Moved auto feeder back up to the display yesterday.
Dumping into return pump worked well but left a lot of food settled in the sump, even with a power head stirring things up.
Took that second Co2 canister off and now PH is climbing a little more and more.

Tested yesterday also and with that single stage Co2 scrubber now my P04 dropped to .05. This im excited about. I slowed my return pump down as well since I didnt have the feeder any longer going through it. Think the slowed return pump will allow the fuge to work a little better. So my hopes are I can remove the Rowaphos.

For anyone following along need some ideas. My return pump has turned off twice today for no reason. My apex is programmed to turn my skimmer off if the return ever turns off. I noticed gurgling as the return pump kicked back on but the skimmer was off telling me maybe my apex told the return pump to turn off. There is no info in the log except the two times the skimmer turned on. Am I missing something or is there another place to look and see what's going on?

I just reset my routers and now I have control of my apex again. So maybe that is all that was needed, But thanks Ben for the quick response I’ll read up on that if this Is still a problem.

Signed into fushion from all devices and all seems good.. Weird the pump kept turning off. Maybe this was the apex loosing WiFi and fallback is set to off???

Got rid of the ugly strawberry basket and made one of these. I can now see the pretty mushrooms growing where before it was very hard to see into the basket. Now hopefully the jaw breaker will be happy again and blow up big like it was before moving.
