My big Derasa clam I’ve had for 4 years decided to somehow break her hinge. Most likely a death sentence. I’ve seen some videos and talk online of making a prosthetic hinge so I tried to no avail unfortunately. Super glued a strip of fabric underneath the hinge but it goes loose when the clam opens and then the halves go all offset.

One guy even 3d printed these mounts for a rubber band to act as the ligaments but I won’t be able to do all that.

Probably have to toss her out before she does and nukes the tank. She undoubtedly plays a huge role in my filtration so I’ll have to keep a close eye on my nutrients and prob stop dosing ammonia and phosphate.

that sucks. How do the break the hinge?
 
Blech, that’s the worst. Sorry to hear that Ben. This darn hobby sometimes :(
 
I'm not an expert in 3D printing but I bought a small printer a short while ago. I don't have the software to create the model at the moment, but if you have something that you would need to print out to help the clam, I might be able to help with that. Just let me know :).

Oh Ken thank you that’s very kind! Unfortunately for the clam I am running back and forth to the hospital as my daughter was just born so the clam will succumb to fate without further intervention.

Totally agree. Focus on that baby. If you get to the point that you end up wanting to deal with the clam and you need something modeled, let me know. I don’t have a printer, but I can make the STL file.

Bummer about the clam. It is gorgeous. :(

I have had my Maxima for about nine months. Was told he prob will not make it given he is only sitting at about 200 PAR. But seems fine. I did chip a piece off of his mantel a month ago accidently while cleaning tank but doesn't seem to have bothered him so far.
 
So much color in this little area that I can’t capture properly.

CC Hellboy finally waking up and showing a nice rouge color.

JF Jolt was taking off but just got a little pale on me.

CC Pink Highlighter finally showing pink polyps.

Merlin’s Staff down below totally washed out by the others but doing awesome.
