Neptune Systems Trident (1 Viewer)

That’s if science exists.

Hey hoho,

You should ask to test the trident. I am sure you are the talk of the office at Neptune HQ. They probably have never seen anyone go through 12 liquid ph test packets in a 4 day period. You would be a perfect candidate for the opposite side of the bell curve study... They always need a few of those testers...

Funny you should say that. That is what I told them, but they still wanted to do a call and test the PH probe. As it turns out, it was faulty and they are sending me a new one. They are also sending me a couple gallons of testing solution. I asked for a complimentary Trident as well (not joking), they said they could not do that. They were nice about it. Great customer service all around.

Sunday I got some nice corals from Sean. I preemptively bumped my dosing a couple ml. Today I already see the Cal and Alk moving down in the Trident tests. Makes it really easy to adjust the dosing to match the new usage.

One thing I really like about the Trident is it is very consistent. With manual tests you always have to be very careful you do them the same every time. Make sure the drops are consistent, all the dry reagent is out of the packet or the little spoon is level, is that really blue or do I need a couple more drops... With the trident it does the test the same every time.

I feel like the trident and other automated dosing/testing solutions are going to really push this hobby to the next level for most people and give us an insight into coral growth based on various factors, I.e. adding/removing activated carbon (what effect that has for uptake) feeding the fish regularly/sporadically, type of food fed, coral feeding and aminos. The testing should give a much better insight into all of those things IMO

Yep. The more things you can lock down and stabilize the easier it is to see the effect of something else being changed. If Alk, Ca, Mg isn’t where you like them and you aren’t seeing success it’s easy to adjust them and keep them stable at a new level for a few weeks to see their effect as well.

Exactly my thoughts. Can also run a elevated levels if you wish to quantify increased growth. I know BRS has tested and proven higher foundation elements will have faster growth under the right conditions, this will just allow that option to be done in a safer/more manageable fashion!

To me, I think this will be one of the biggest benefits of this hole thing. Having a test taken four times a day and done exactly the same way every time will really increase stability. In all of the tests I have used, there is always a lot of human element that could change the outcome of the test, especially when we are trying to get as precise as .1 ppm. Even with my Hanna testers, I have a hard time trusting the results unless I do the test at least 2 times and get the same result. The match the colors tests are ball park at best IMO.

I was thinking about this very advantage of the Trident this weekend.
Since I am very close to starting up my calcium reactor, I stocked up on alkalinity and calcium test reagents so I can dial in the reactor. But as soon as corals are added and begin to consume the elements, I'll need to keep testing and adjusting the effluent accordingly. Test, test, test, test... The thought of having "instant" indicators and results would be a godsend!

Three days after adding the corals I'm increasing dosing again. So far have moved both Cal and Alk dosing from 47ml to 52ml while only allowing my Alk to drop by 0.13 and Cal having no change. I expect to have to increase them some more as the corals get comfortable and start growing.

Side note, the skimmer is still going crazy from the reef epoxy. Used almost an entire stick placing the new corals.

Such a cool device, i had never heard of it till i saw it. Reading up on it, sounds very nice.
I know, i must live under a rock. Lol

Testing is still going well. The spike is calibration. Numbers have been very stable once I got my dosing dialed in. Having so many test results is the only way I would have realistically been able to get things that stable. I just would not have done enough manual tests myself to achieve this. I've got a feeling the initial release of these is going to go fast.

I'm sure it's just rumors but the latest is that they are going to release or at least start taking pre-orders this weekend to coincide with Reef-a-Palooza. I'm not getting my hopes up but I hope it's true.

I just hope we get a release or at least release date before the speaker event May 18 so we can tap terence for knowledge of the device without the NDA

They just started round 2 NSI testing (been talked about on their Facebook page so should be able to say that). No idea when they'll start pre-orders but kinda doubt it will be this weekend.

Based on the FAQ thread on R2R and his latest Facebook posts/videos you can get quite a bit out of him. He is releasing a bunch of info thats been fairly low key for awhile. Honestly if you read that entire thread plus watch a few of the Trident youtube videos you'd know everything about the Trident except for a release date (NSI doesn't know) and the price, which tons of people have already guessed fairly accurately.

I hate to admit but I just re-read through that entire R2R thread last night. I know I know, I have too much time on my hands ;)
I've also posted a couple times in there thanking you guys for the info that you can share. Seems to be a great device and I look forward to seeing and hearing more from users like you who put it through it's paces, thanks.
Real world results are great since we all have different tanks with different animals, parameters and goals etc.
