Pickle Ricks new build (1 Viewer)

Looks nice! how did you end up creating the overhang? Acrylic rod, glue, putty? Or was the rock naturally shaped that way?

Also, Just personal preference but I always like to keep a bit of space behind the scape so that flow can get behind the rockwork easier, removing a potential detritus trap. Even a couple of inches can go a long way. Looks like you may have this accounted for already though.
Epoxy and superglue, it has dried over 2 months so it should be good, then that piece rests on top of the 2 base pieces so I can remove to clean or maintence as needed. With that said, i have plenty of acrylic rods so i can drill and strengthen the design some if needed. Only the rock with the arch is attached, the rest is just piled against each other. But since it is a shallow tank and it wont be stacked high im not too concerned about anything falling or shifting.

And yes, I tried to leave ~3 inches between the rock and glass at any point. The pictures are a bit misleading but there is space back there. Learned that the hard way with my reefer 250 :)

Look nice .
It is all personal references. Depend on what coral you gonna have , which fish and other half .

Mostly zoas, lps and anemones. I will have less than 10 sps, and they will all be classic pieces like oregon tort and red planet.

Fish will be a kole or tomini tang
1 clown
1 bellus angel
2-4 peaceful wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus, Halichoeres iridis, Halichoeres biocellatus)
2-4 royal gramma
midas blenny
2-3 talbots damsel
possibly a lawnmower blenny
possibly a small yellow or purple tang. or possibly a convict tang.

i wont do convict tang, they are not as easy as other tangs.

Are you planning to use your Mitras fixtures on this tank? I was thinking so? Can you post your thoughts/review/impressions of them? Strongly thinking of switching to those from my MH but...I don't have a real good reason other than it's something different. So...collecting information where I can. :)

I am! I have 2 fixtures and from what ive seen and plan on growing, that should be plenty of par and spread for my build. I really like them, and the programming isnt bad after you pick it up. The software is buggy i will admit and i often lose connection to their cloud app. But colors are very good and balanced. the UV and Hyperviolet really make fish pop when maxed out. Taking pictures with the fixture is hard unless you turn photo mode on via the software but whatever (hence the lack of pictures of that tank in this thread) Mounting options could be better, just the hanger or the flex mount which is just 8020 as far as i can tell. The fixtures and powersupply themselves are heavy duty though so i have no doubts they will last years. Any other info you are looking for? You can take a look at them once my 125 gets here and setup if you would like but that will be july or so

Good info, thanks. I have the Profilux 4 controller and their 2.1 dosing pump so I'm familiar with the software and it's quirks. It's frustrating at times for sure. GCC crashes a lot for me, I never can connect to myGHL and do most of my tweaking via the GHL Connect app. You spread was good, how about shadowing? From what I've read not many complain about spread with these fixtures but never hurts to ask someone with firsthand experience.

I think that's my biggest concern, shadowing with LED only. Well, that and lack of success with sps. I guess, I can always give them a go and store my halides, and if it doesn't work out go back. Nothing is forever, right? :)

How did those turbos do for you?

Spread is great in my opinion but this has been my only sole LED light solution ive used so not much to compare to other than a t5/led hybrid (hybrid will always win spread and shadowing. No doubt.) with that said, I am comfortable with how the spread is, one unit worked well on a 3 foot tank as long as the outer few inches were lps and softies as it was getting around 75-125 par at the far outer edges.

As for par and light output it is a healthy blanket without the hotspot in the middle most led's offer. With my light profile my peak par is around 250 for the upper part of the tank, and around 150-175 the rest o fthe tank. Plenty for everything ive grown.

Turbos are doing well! they managed to bull doze a couple frags into the hammer/anemone, and a couple got stuck upside down while i was away from home over the weekend but they have been doing good at keeping newer algae growth down. They suck at eating the leafy stuff in my tank tho lolol

Your input along with all the other stuff I've read on the Mitras over the past couple days means an upgrade to my tank is on the way!

Whoa, that FTS showing everything is quite wild. I'm diggin it!

Thanks! I am running out of room. This tank was only supposed to be up for ~2 months while i cycled my RSR250 again. well one thing led to another and i decided to upgrade and here we are, 8 months later. Some things are doing amazing in this tank like the zoas and some saddly did not like my yuma's. Sticks are touch and go for the most part.

This build is likely going to be scratched. Second tank arrived damaged from SCA. I messaged them but still no reply. At this point I hope i can get my money back at least.

Ugh!!! That’s not good to hear.
Although, I am still somewhat mystified by how some manufactures “crate” their tanks when they’re shipped.

Yeah, pallet, hard cardboard styrophoam and nothing indicating that it's fragile anywhere.

Here's the damage. Clearly through the silicone as well. Don't trust this one bit.

On a side note, any other custom tank makers that aren't reef savvy expensive? IMG_20180702_143752.jpg IMG_20180702_143759.jpg

Is another shipping company they could use that might handle things a bit more carefully?

Sad to see this !!! Hopefully you get refunded .
Good luck with Reef Savvy - their wait time currently is 11 months !!!
There's quite a lot that are equally or even better than Reef Savvy but none won't be as cheap as SC aquariums . Workmanship will be amazing too !

AGE (not the hybrid ones but normal tanks with PVC bottom- Hybrids are crazy costly !! Crazy means crazy ), Coast To Coast , Crystal Aquatics (WA) , TankMeUsa - all of these are top of the line but most of them have competitive pricing .

You can always check with MidwestAcrylics too - acrylic will be wayy cheaper than glass , you won't need to hire people to move tank into house and you can take help from Nox/Jeremy as they own large acrylic tanks as to how to maintain them scratch free.

Regards,
Abhishek
